Well, let’s start with there’s no “us.” So far, there’s just a “me.” I’m John Hartness, and I’ve been a lighting designer for the past sixteen years. I’ve designed hundreds of shows, and with my day job, I get to pay with the coolest toys. I work for Barbizon Lighting Company in Charlotte, NC, where I head up the Systems Division for the Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. I’ve been with Barbizon for 14 years, and I really love my job. It puts me in contact with some great people, and gets me access to the latest toys and technology.

Let’s be real clear here, even though I work for Barbizon, this website is not affiliated with my employer. The opinions I express here are my own, and nobody else’s. Feel free to disagree with them, some of my co-workers probably do as well. That’s cool. They’re opinions, not gospel. I probably won’t promote Barbizon too heavily here, even though I think they’re the best lighting supplier in the world. But my bais is pretty evident, since I’ve worked there since I got out of college.
